It is solid stainless steel with only the pivoting press as the moving part. It’s also moving in on 20 years old. I usually crush my garlic presses in 2-3 years. Yes, that’s right, the metal crumples in my hand. Alas, that’s all I know, otherwise I’d buy stock. Legend has it there is a lemon press with the same design but I haven’t been able to find it. And I have been looking because most lemon press designs don’t extract half the juice of the good ole juicers of yore (see image 2 with a Oxo juicer of yore).So when I saw the ecoJeannie flat lemon press design (middle lemon press in image 2), I was most happy. I *like* lemon presses – convenient, neat but every now and then it gives an ominous creak when I frantically try to extract as much juice using the press as the juicer of yore.When the flat press arrived (along with a plastic tap for lemons which was instantly hurled into the junk drawer. Whoever wants *drops* of juice?????) I pulled out the lemons and started weighing them. Then I juiced them and weighed the juice.Percent juice extracted (as a percentage of the total weight of the lemon)Lemon press (standard) – 23%Ye good ole juicer – 40% (!!!!!!)Zee flat press – 38%Well, technically, the juicer won but I’ve already figured out I’m lazy and was willing to use the press when I needed only a squeeze instead of some real juice. The flat press just walked off with all of the lemon juicing round here.I wonder how many decades this can last? The steel on that garlic press is pretty darned heavy…..
